To my
Son's First Teacher
I took my baby by the hand
And brought him to your care,
And with a mom's anxiety,
I bravely left him there.
Would you understand he's special,
And that others can be cruel?
Yes, and you helped me learn
The "one-in-twenty" rule.
He learned to stand on strawberries,
Make a line and share the toys,
And to eagerly look forward to
Those other girls and boys.
Numbers, letters, colors
And important holidays --
You nurtured twenty little minds
One hundred eighty days.
And now we've come to thank you
For a year that we enjoyed.
I brought to you my baby,
And you gave me back my boy.
